Mother Christmas

I had an idea the other day while at church.  The Mini had asked if she was going to give away her older toys that she doesn't play with to kids who need toys.  I said, "Yes of course, just like last year."

Mother Christmas who watches for charitable childrenIt got me to thinking that it might be nice if there was a special prize left for her because of her generosity and charitable heart.

I came up with 2 characters, Mother Christmas (AKA Mrs. Mary Clause) and her helper, the Christmas Fairy.  I had picked out some things for a spa day for the Mini's stocking and decided that instead of putting the items in her stocking they would be left by the Christmas Fairy for Mrs. Claus for her and I to use together on a spa day.

Below is the letter that she will get in the mail tomorrow after school. Christmas fairy who brings a special prize to children that give away toys before christmas.

Dear Lovely Girl,

Each year you give away toys to make room for new ones. You give those toys to kids who don't have lots of nice things.  I love that about you!

If you want, after you pack up your old toys you can put this letter in a bag or basket and I will send one of my Christmas Fairies to your house with a special gift for you and your mum.

The prizes from Santa in your stocking are for you. The prizes in your  Mum's stocking are for her. I know you share. (You are on Santa's Good List, after all!)

The gift that my Christmas Fairy leaves is for you and your mum to use together. It is about spending time together.

I know a lot about being a mother! I have elves, winter fairies, and gnomes to look after. It's easy to forget to just be together .

So… pack up some toys and your mum will help them find a new home. Then put this letter out for me to find on Christmas Eve.

With Love, Faith & Magic,

Mrs. Mary Claus

p.s. Don't forget to pack this letter somewhere safe to put out each year for Mother Christmas to Find.

I hope this tradition sticks and we do this each year.

Mother Christmas is a way to entice children to be charitable and generous. A letter from Mrs. Clause might be just the thing a child needs to want to give things away.

Merry Christmas

Mother Christmas
b
y Roald Dahl

"Where art thou, Mother Christmas?
I only wish I knew
Why Father should get all the praise
And no one mentions you.

I'll bet you buy the presents
And wrap them large and small
While all the time that rotten swine
Pretends he's done it all.

So Hail To Mother Christmas
Who shoulders all the work!
And down with Father Christmas,
That unmitigated jerk!"
